- Digital audio uses pulse-code modulation and digital signals for sound reproduction. This includes analog-to-digital conversion (ADC), digital-to-analog conversion (DAC), storage, and transmission.
- Digital audio is audio that has been converted into a series of ones and zeros that can be understood by a computer. Computers cannot understand analog data – it must first be converted into digital data. When analog sound is converted to digital, it is generally saved as a wave file.
- comprises audio signals stored in a digital format. Specifically, the term encompasses the following: Sound reproduction is the electrical or mechanical re-creation and/or amplification of sound, often as music.
digital audio
- The action or process of producing something
- The power, energy, or other results supplied by a device or system
- end product: final product; the things produced
- The amount of something produced by a person, machine, or industry
- to create or manufacture a specific amount; “the computer is outputting the data from the job I’m running”
- production of a certain amount
output
- The chain of a ship’s anchor
- A length of 200 yards (182.9 m) or (in the US) 240 yards (219.4 m)
- a telegram sent abroad
- send cables, wires, or telegrams
- a conductor for transmitting electrical or optical signals or electric power
- A thick rope of wire or nonmetallic fiber, typically used for construction, mooring ships, and towing vehicles

digital audio output cable – Tartan Cable
S/PDIF Digital Audio cables are used on many devices today to send digitally-encoded audio–which may be simple stereo right/left audio content, or any of a variety of multichannel surround audio standards such as Dolby 5.1 audio–from source devices to audio receivers and amplifiers. Coaxial digital audio cable is basically standard 75 ohm video cable–the same as is used for such things as composite video or SDI–with RCA plugs on each end.
Shielding and Impedance Stability
The most important attributes of a coaxial digital audio cable are its characteristic impedance and the effectiveness of its shielding. This is a conventional 75 ohm impedance video cable, matching the impedance of all common home theater sources, DACs and receivers. It carries a combination braid and foil shield; the foil provides 100% coverage and is highly effective at higher frequencies, while the braid provides better low-frequency protection, better physical durability, and lower resistance to ground to provide an effective ground path for EMI and RFI. This cable is CL2 rated for in-wall installation.
About Tartan Cable:
Tartan Cable is the economy brand of home theater cabling products from Blue Jeans Cable, a Seattle-based manufacturer and importer of broadcast-quality cabling for the home.

Telephone Interview Recording Rig
The telephone interface allows you to record the interviewer and the caller’s voices on separate tracks with minimal cross-talk. It also feeds the interviewers audio into the phone line. The device has two sends, one for the interviewer and a second if you want to put music or another audio source into the phone like for the caller to hear.
An alternative configuration is to use a Apple MacBook Pro instead of the Microtrack. In this case the line level output of the mixer is fed into the Macintosh MacBook Pro line input. Recording is done using Boom Recorder software (a very nice multi-track recorder for the Mac with good logging and fine naming capabilities. Available in a lite two-track version and a pro multitrack version).
